The Bears’ first-team offense and quarterback Justin Fields put on a show against the Browns on Saturday in Cleveland, scoring 21 straight points to win 21-20.

Justin Fields put off a solid individual performance, completing 14 of 16 throws for 156 yards and three touchdowns. In his longest preseason outing, Fields played 29 plays for the first-team offense. Over the course of five drives, he completed passes to 10 different players, earning him a rating of 146.9.

According to Justin Fields, he was anxious to see his unit’s progress in understanding and using the offense. He said that coming into the game, he felt good and confident.

I think it’s just execution on all sides, Fields said. I repeatedly remarked to them that I believed the offensive line did an outstanding job of defending today. The receivers had excellent performance throughout the scramble drill by selecting the right routes, the right depth, and other elements. Therefore, just from a protection perspective, running the football will open up everything with our play-action and bootleg plays.

Ryan Griffin, a tight end, caught a corner route throw from Fields for 22 yards and his first score of the preseason. During the seven-play, 80-yard drive, Fields completed all five of his throws for a total of 55 yards, giving the Bears a 7-0 lead.

on the drive, in addition to successfully completing throws to five different teammates. The second-year quarterback displayed his versatility by also running for a first down.

“I just think [Fields] is progressing,” coach Matt Eberflus said.

As I indicated the other day, he is a young player who lacks experience. I think he needed this virtual reality experience for himself. The quarterback improved significantly for our football team as well as for himself by executing the offense, feeling comfortable, and doing what he does best. I think he did that tonight.

The Browns’ Cade York missed a 58-yard field goal attempt on the subsequent possession. Giving the Bears the ball at their own 48. With an 18-yard pass to receiver Equanimeous St. Brown, Fields promptly pushed the ball down the field. After that, David Montgomery gained 13 yards to reach the goal. Fields completed the 5-play, 52-yard drive with a touchdown pass of 12 yards to receiver Dante Pettis with 13:49 left in the first half to push the Bears’ lead to 14-0.

At the Chicago 38, Greg Stroman Jr. intercepted Browns quarterback Jacoby Brissett, giving the offense another opportunity to score. This was the Bears’ defense’s first game-changing interception.

when Cole Kmet, who was standing 24 yards out in the right end zone corner, was clearly open. Fields extended a play with his legs to score his third and final touchdown. The quarterback once again completed 5 of 5 passes on the 8-play, 62-yard drive. Kicker Cairo Santosthen added his third extra point with 3:35 remaining in the first half to give the Bears a 21-0 lead.

We’re pleased to be where Cole is,” Eberflus added. “Cole played well this game once again, so we’re delighted about his placement. Because he has been practicing continually, he has been putting in a lot of effort and is currently blocking. In the open field, he is definitely catching the ball well while racing after the grab. Therefore, he has been acting appropriately. We are happy with his current location.

York made field goals of 57 and 46 yards in the closing two minutes of the second quarter to reduce the Bears’ advantage to 21-6.

On Saturday, Montgomery received his first preseason playing time and rushed for 28 yards on 9 attempts. With the first-team offense, Pettis received the most targets and caught 3 of 4 receptions for 37 yards. Kmet gained 36 yards from three catches.

Braxton Jones at left tackle, Cody Whitehair at left guard, Sam Mustipher at the center, Teven Jenkins at right guard. And Larry Borom at right tackle made up the first-team offensive line for the Bears.

With two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, the Browns made a comeback to pull within one point of the Bears, 21-20. But with 2:31 left, the Bears blocked Cleveland’s two-point conversion try to secure the victory.
