THE LOS ANGELES – LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers have reached an agreement on a two-year, $97.1 million contract deal. It will last through the 2024–25 season, his agent revealed on Wednesday.

The league-maximum contract makes James the highest-paid player in NBA history, according to Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul. His new contract includes a player option that would enable him to remain with the Lakers after turning 40 in December 2024.

The 37-year-old James’ most recent deal with the Lakers, who signed the four-time NBA MVP is approaching its final year. The 18-time All-Star will receive $46.7 million this season thanks to the new contract.

If nothing goes wrong, James should pass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar this winter as the NBA’s all-time leading scorer. If James and Anthony Davis are able to recover from their injuries. The Lakers and James still aim to be in the running for another championship following an injury-plagued 2021–22 season that concluded without playoff participation.

James’ new contract syncs with Davis’ most recent contract extension with the Lakers. Enabling both players to depart from the team or engage in contract negotiations in 2024. Klutch is the representation of both superstars.

James’ decision to stay with the Lakers also puts an end to ongoing rumors that he might leave as a free agent or in a trade. On social media and in his public appearances, James hasn’t shown any signs of leaving. And even applauded the hire of new Lakers coach Darvin Ham.

LeBron James and Lakers

In three of his four years with the Lakers, James has missed large amounts of the season due to injuries. He was mainly healthy when the Lakers won their 17th NBA championship in the Florida bubble during the extended 2019–20 season. He has continued to play like the dominant player of his heyday over the past two seasons when fully healthy.

James spent the final four seasons of his 19-year career with the legendary Lakers. Despite the flurry of offseason speculation about his financial situation, it was improbable that he would leave. His family lives in Los Angeles, where Bronny, his oldest son, attends Sierra Canyon High School in Chatsworth as a senior and potential college basketball player. Bronny is 17 years old.

When his son Bronny enters the NBA. James has on occasion stated that he plans to play on the same team as Bronny. The younger James may be eligible for the NBA draft in the summer of 2024. Despite the fact that there are still several barriers in his way.
