Although the Washington Commanders haven’t been put on the market yet. It seems likely given the turmoil surrounding owner Daniel Snyder. Additionally, the franchise is apparently being seriously considered for purchase by at least one well-known billionaire. Jeff Bezos, the creator of Amazon, is reportedly interested in making an offer for the Commanders. If they are up for sale, according to The Washington Post and other sources. According to the source, rapper and producer Jay-Z might potentially be a part of this proposal.

Bloomberg reported about the interest of Jeff Bezos

Even though People and Bloomberg have also reported on Bezos’ interest, he currently owns The Washington Post. Bezos already has a strong tie to the league. This season, Thursday Night Football will solely be aired on Amazon, which is a first for the league’s streaming-only options.

Now, there are speculations that Bezos has long desired an NFL team. However, he didn’t make a move to buy the Denver Broncos earlier this year. After a record $4.65 billion sale, an ownership group headlined by Walmart heir Rob Walton officially acquired the Broncos. With an estimated net worth of more than $59 billion, Walton became the league’s wealthiest owner as a result.

If Bezos were to gain control of the Washington Commanders, he would smash that record. Only Tesla owner and new Twitter CEO Elon Musk have a greater global net worth than his current estimate of $171 billion. This week, Dan and Tanya Snyder said that they had appointed BofA Securities to explore potential deals relating to a potential Commanders sale. This might be the first step before a sale, even though they claimed they were only exploring all options.

Criminal Investigation against the Team Commanders

However, only a few hours later, the Eastern District of Virginia’s U.S. attorney’s office declared that a criminal investigation against the team had been launched. That was in response to a letter the House Committee on Oversight and Reform sent earlier this year. Which it asserted had proof of the team’s alleged underreporting of ticket sales, withholding of supporters’ security deposits, and other allegations. These accusations have been refuted by the Commanders.

The Commanders were the sixth-most valuable franchise in the league when Forbes rated them at approximately $5.6 billion earlier this year. At nearly $8 billion, the Dallas Cowboys were the most valuable team. If the Snyders decide to sell, many believe they will set a new price-per-sale record.

There are rumors of interest from other groups in purchasing the Commanders. The Washington Post reports that the list also includes media mogul Byron Allen, Clearlake Capital co-founders Behdad Eghbali and Jose E. Feliciano, Washington Wizards and Capitals owner Ted Leonsis, and Musk. Allen would become the first Black principal team owner if he were to acquire the team.
