Both residents and visitors are welcome to explore the structure for free. However, according to CNN, advance reservations are required for the tickets. The new library, which joined the ranks of other top-notch institutions like the British Library in London and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Egypt, cost about $272 million to construct.

The library’s development started in 2016, as stated by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai. The enormous structure on Dubai Creek in Al Jaddaf contains more than 1.1 million physical and digital books. Over six million dissertations, 73,000 musical scores, and 35,000 printed and digital international periodicals are all available to visitors.

Although the structure has an open-book appearance, the design was initially motivated by a “rehl” that is used to hold the Holy Quran.
